Description

View of the Renaissance portal of the former Saint-Pierre abbey, now in ruins, adorned with two reclining statues of Ceres and Noah. Printed text at the bottom: 'This portal once formed the cloister of the Saint-Pierre or Saint-Père-en-Vallée abbey. Of the finest Renaissance style, it bears in itself the date of its construction (the 16th century). Unfortunately, it is now in ruins. Two reclining statues, of fine craftsmanship, adorn the tympanum and bear the inscriptions: Ceres, Noah. Notes by J. D.' The reverse features a handwritten letter addressed to 'Dear Mother' from Paris to Auxerre, with printed address 'Correspondence — Anciens Rêves, Paris'.
