The monument bears the inscriptions '1870-1871', 'BELFORT', 'BRESSE-EN-BOURG', 'NORTS', 'DEFENDING THE SIEGE'. On the reverse, handwritten correspondence addressed to the Messrs. Mellingers in Ramey, with the inscription 'Well received by all' and a 5-centime green stamp of the French Republic postmarked in Belfort on July 10, 1917.
