Illustration of a French colonial avis, the Dumont d'Urville, with a portrait of an officer in uniform. Printed text indicates: 'DUMONT D'URVILLE. — Colonial avis of 2,000 tonnes armed with 3 138 mm cannons. Entered service in 1932.' On the reverse, printed text states: 'DUMONT D'URVILLE (1790-1842). Great navigator. During a voyage around the world, he discovered at Vanikoro the remains of the wreck of Laperouse, who disappeared with his two frigates 'La Boussole' and 'L'Astrolabe' in 1788.'
