View of Faubourg Rivotte and the Citadel of Besançon, with aligned houses along a sloping street and the citadel dominating the hill. The back indicates a letter addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Rolland in Paris, with a postmark from Besançon dated April 10, 1905, and a handwritten inscription mentioning 'We are leaving Besançon tonight'.
