View of the Abbaye aux Dames in Caen, founded in the 10th century by Queen Mathilde, with its Romanesque towers and church. The reverse features a handwritten letter addressed to Madame Louise Gpisar in Saint-Georges-des-Groseillers (Orne), with a French 5 centimes postage stamp with cancellation.
