Soldiers in summer uniform lined up in rows on an open field, waiting for an artillery fire at Mailly Camp. Printed text at the top: 'MAILLY CAMP. — Waiting for the fire'. On the reverse, a handwritten letter dated 17 July 1926, sent from Paris to Lutterbach (H.R.), with a blue 30-centime stamp and a postmark from Vaugirard.
