Description

Engraved portrait of a man in 18th-century costume holding a brush and an easel. Printed text at the bottom: 'Son of the Avignon painter Antoine Vernet, father of Carle Vernet and grandfather of Horace Vernet. Was mainly a painter of landscapes and seascapes. The Marquis de Marigny commissioned a series of paintings of French ports; fifteen were executed. The Louvre holds part of them, as well as landscapes, in total about forty paintings.' Reverse: multilingual postcard with the notes 'Correspondence' and 'Address' and the publisher 'JND hot.' at the bottom right.
