Description

View of Fort Vaux, built between 1881 and 1884 with masonry of rubble stones and covered with concrete from 1888. The reverse indicates that it was captured by the Germans on the night of June 8 to 9, 1916, despite the resistance of Commander Ravnal, and recaptured by the French army on November 2, 1916. Obliterated stamp 'OSSUAIRE DE DOUAUMONT (Meuse)' and mention of exclusive ownership by the Ossuaire Committee.
