Description

View of Fort de Vaux, built between 1881 and 1884 with masonry of rough stone and covered with concrete from 1888. The reverse indicates that it was captured by the Germans on the night of June 8–9, 1916, despite heroic resistance, and recaptured by the Mangin Army on November 2, 1916. The publisher is the Douaumont Ossuary Committee, with a circular stamp indicating 'OSSUAIRE de DOUAUMONT (Meuse)' and a mention of exclusive ownership.
