Illustration of the astronomical clock of Besançon, commissioned by Cardinal Mathieu and executed by Mr. Vérité de Beauvais, started in March 1838, completed in August 1840, measuring 5m80 in height and composed of 30,000 mechanical parts. The reverse presents a handwritten correspondence addressed to Mr. François Béthany at the Hôtel Margary in Nancy, with a French 10-centime postmark and a Besançon cancellation dated August 14, 1908.
