Description

Panoramic view of Fort Douaumont in Verdun, with paths and visitors in the foreground, on a hilly and rocky terrain. The reverse indicates that this fort, the most powerful in Verdun's defense, fell into German hands on February 25, 1916, and was recaptured by the French on October 24, 1916. A 'VERDUN' postmark is affixed at the top right.
