Description

View of Fort Vaux, built between 1881 and 1884 using rubble masonry and covered with concrete from 1888. The reverse indicates that it was captured by the Germans on 8–9 June 1916, then recaptured on 2 November 1916 after an attack by the Mangin army. The publisher is the Douaumont Ossuary (Meuse), with a circular postmark and a note of exclusive ownership by the Ossuary Committee.
