Statue of General Chanzy, commander of the Army of the Loire, erected on August 16, 1885, in memory of his defense of Le Mans in January 1871 against the German invasion. The base bears the inscription 'A CHANZY A L'ARMÉE DE LA LOIRE 1870-1871'. On the reverse, a handwritten letter addressed 'Dear Parents' announces good news and an imminent departure, signed 'Paul Boufoun at Chomery and Madame Bousquet'.
