Description

View of the western end of the Pont du Gard, showing the staircase leading to the aqueduct with its remaining arches. Printed text on the front describes the staircase added in 1855 and the direction N.-W. The back details the structure as a colossal fragment of a 41 km aqueduct, built in 19 BC, with 6 arches in the first row, 11 in the second, and 35 in the third, and mentions its destruction by the Visigoths in 412–418.
