Description

View of Maintenon Castle on the banks of the Eure, with its southern facade reflected in the water. The reverse details its history: origin in the Middle Ages, reconstruction under Louis XI and Charles VIII, purchased in 1674 by the Widow Scarron, and embellishment under Louis XIV with a gallery and a chapel. The visit is renowned for its stained glass windows and Maintenon's chamber.
