View of the Esplanade in Metz with a central fountain and the Palace of Justice in the background, under a cloudy sky. Printed red text indicates 'Esplanade und Justizpalast — Esplanade et Palais de Justice'. On the reverse, a handwritten letter invites to a visit for the national holiday of Saint-Quentin, addressed to 'Notre cousin Martin Eugène'. Postmark of 10 centimes and cancellation stamp from Huitre (Aube) dated 3 September 1904.
