View of the Serpenoise Gate in Metz, with its monumental arch surrounded by vegetation and a tree-lined avenue extending to the horizon. The inscription on the arch reads 'Serpenoise Gate, Designed by architect Boucher 1889-1892, Current State 1908'. The reverse bears the publisher 'Cartes La Clyogne, 37, r. de la Course, Strasbourg'.
