Soldiers in summer uniform share a soup meal in a military camp in the forest, sitting on benches and stones. On the back, a handwritten letter addressed to Mr. Lucien Teraud in Bougès-de-l'Étoile, Paris, dated August 15, 1904, with a 9-centime postage stamp and a postmark from Mourmelon.
