Black and white illustration of a war scene showing several German soldiers in infantry uniform, in firing position in a forest, neutralizing an enemy patrol. The printed text at the bottom of the front indicates 'Überwachung einer feindlichen Patrouille'. The reverse has a handwritten letter dated 27.1.17, written in French, addressed to a recipient in Paris, with a note of 'Poste Restante' and a signature. A postmark is visible at the bottom right of the reverse.
