View of the ruined Vermellis Castle, surrounded by trenches and fortified by the Germans, taken under assault on December 1st, 1914. Four soldiers stand in front of the ruins. Reverse: handwritten correspondence from a woman to her lover, signed 'Masca', with address to 'Mamay' and mention of 'Robert'.
