World War I illustration showing French troops in an assault, while a German infantryman observes with a machine gun. The printed text at the bottom of the front reads: « Our troops are launching the assault: but suddenly, the Germans seem to surrender because behind the German curtain a machine gun is being armed to begin its work of treachery ». The back is blank, with fields for correspondence and address, and a note at the top: « Not all foreign countries accept correspondence on the front (Check with the Post Office) ».
