Black and white portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots, wearing a dark dress with high collar and cross, from the National Portrait Gallery. The back details her life: daughter of James V of Scotland and Marie de Lorraine, taken hostage in 1548, married to Francis II, then to the Earl of Bothwell, and executed at Fotheringhay Castle in 1587.
