Illustration of a monastic scene where Dom Pérignon (1638–1715), cellar master of the Abbey of Hautvillers, is depicted with monks around a table, evoking his art of blending raw grapes to create delicate wines. On the reverse, stamp of the House of Moët & Chandon, seal 'House founded in 1743', and handwritten correspondence addressed to Monsieur Courbiau in Lyon.
