Description

View of the ruins of the Château de Pierrefonds before its restoration by Viollet-le-Duc in 1858, with printed text describing its history: built on the site of the old keep of the Lords of Pierrefonds by Duke Louis d'Orléans, brother of King Charles V, besieged and captured in 1617. The reverse is a French postage stamp with a partially faded stamp and cancellation, addressed to the recipient and sender.
