Description

View of an ancient bison horn, the Horn of Alphius, hanging on a wooden door of York Minster. The back contains a handwritten note explaining that this Saxon horn was used to signal the closing of the city gates at dusk, but has not been used for many years. The publisher is Frith's Series, and a ½ penny usage stamp is affixed.
