Description

Front page of an illuminated manuscript of the Gospels of Saint John, written and decorated at Lindisfarne (Northumbria) around 698. The text in Vulgate Latin is framed by an ornate majuscule with complex Celtic motifs. The reverse indicates the publisher: The British Museum, and the manuscript reference: Cotton MS. Nero D. iv. f. 211.
