Description

Black and white view of the ruins of Champtoce Castle, known as 'Blue Beard', in Angers (Maine-et-Loire), with a cylindrical keep and ruined walls. The reverse indicates that Gilles de Retz lived there in the 17th century and was condemned to death for having slit the throats of more than 600 children. The publisher is M. Chretien & Fils, Angers, and the postcard bears a handwritten date '27/06/1963'.
