View of the helical minaret of the Samarra Mosque, built under the Abbasids (847–861), whose ruins extend along the Tigris River. The reverse indicates that Samarra, founded by the Abbasids, was once the capital of the caliphate before becoming a holy city. Printed text in French and Arabic, with mention of the publisher Graphil and the series number X-E2.
