Description

Ivory kris dagger from Sumatra, 17th century, 43 cm long, with a scabbard decorated with floral motifs and religious quotations in Arabic. The handle, shaped like an elephant's head, symbolizes the power of the sultanate. The reverse indicates it likely belonged to a noble from the court of Sultan Sigli and mentions the publisher 'Aurora Art Publishers' in Leningrad, printed in the USSR.
