Description

Relief sculpture showing the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ within an arched architectural frame. The Virgin wears a black veil bordered with gold and a red robe, with her hands joined in prayer. Christ is nude, with a visible wound on his torso, resting on a dark drapery. The work appears to date from the Middle Ages or Renaissance, with traces of polychromy.
