Description

Black and white view of the nave and apse of Romsey Abbey Church, Hampshire, showing pointed arch vaults and a stone fountain. The reverse indicates that the church, founded around 1120, was an important center for women's education and that the eastern part is of Norman style, later transformed into early English style after the dissolution of the nuns in 1539. Photograph by Edwin Smith, published by Gordon Fraser Gallery Ltd.
