Description

Ink and watercolor drawing by William Stanton (1639–1705), design for the funeral monument of Sir John Roberts (died 1692) in St. Mary's Church, Bromley, Poplar, London (demolished). The drawing, of format 16¼ x 9¾ inches, is presented in a baroque frame decorated with putti, angels, and a central vase. The reverse indicates the provenance from the Victoria and Albert Museum, the donation date (1965), and inventory number E.120.
