Description

Postcard illustrating the steamship 'SS Canadian', the first ship of the Allan Line, launched in July 1854 and making its first Canadian voyage in May 1856. The back details its history in English and French, mentioning its sinking in June 1857. The envelope bears a Canada 38 stamp and a postmark from Chatham, Ontario, dated June 11, 1963, sent to the Passport Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa.
