French aviator Hubert Latham on his Antoinette monoplane, ready to take off for an attempt at crossing the English Channel in 1909. The reverse details the ambition of the feat and mentions the presence of journalists at Sangatte near Calais. The publisher is the Military Library Guérin of Mauremelon, with a postmark from Saint-Grégoire (Loire) dated August 11, 1909.
