Engraved portrait of Buffon, with a biographical text on the back describing his birth in Montbard in 1707, his admission to the Académie des Sciences in 1739, his appointment as Intendant of the Jardin du Roi, his ennoblement as a count in 1753, and his death in 1788. The back shows the areas for correspondence and address, with the publisher JND Hot and the number 328 visible at the bottom left.
