Description

Commemorative stone plaque indicating the names and birth dates of seven machine gunners of the 49th B.C.P. killed by a 420 mm shell on 14 December 1916. The reverse specifies in French, German, and English that this casemate of Fort Douaumont houses the bodies of these soldiers. French postmark in ink, cancellation 'VIERGNON 15' visible at bottom right.
