View of Fort Douaumont, a modern and powerful fortification, with its trenches and earthworks. The reverse indicates that it was occupied by surprise on February 25, 1916, and recaptured on October 24, 1916 by the 321st R.I. La Gauloise Division under General Passaga. Postmark and cancellation of the Douaumont Ossuary (Meuse) visible.
