Description

Postcard showing the ruins of Fort Douaumont after the Battle of Verdun, with rocky slopes and traces of damage. The reverse features a historical text describing the construction of the fort (1885–1887) and its surprise occupation by the 321st R.I. La Gauloise on February 25, 1916. A circular postmark from the Douaumont Ossuary (Meuse) is visible, as well as a note of exclusive ownership by the Ossuary Committee.
