Description

View of the Fort of Douaumont, built of rubble masonry in 1885 and covered with a concrete shell from 1887. The back details its surprise occupation by the Germans on February 25, 1916, and its capture by the 321st Regiment of the 31st 'Gauloise' Division on October 24, 1916, under the command of General Passaga. Circulated postmark with cancellation 'OSSUAIRE DE DOUAUMONT (Meuse)' and mention of exclusive ownership by the Ossuaire Committee.
