Description

View of the belfry of Mons, with printed text describing its history: replacement of the clock in 1661, reconstruction from 1662–72 by the engineer Ledoux, restoration from 1849–66, and events of the Battle of Jemappes in 1794. Reverse: green 35-centime Belgian stamp, postal mark of Brussels, handwritten address to Madame Chapeon in Paris, and signature 'Du gentil sourire' from the sender.
