Description

Colorized view of the Reims Cathedral on fire, with flames and smoke rising from the Gothic rooftops, observed from the rooftops of surrounding buildings. Reverse: printed text stating 'Authentic photograph of the Reims Cathedral during the fire, 19 September 1914' and mention of 'bombardment by German shells'. Handwritten message dated 8 September 1914, addressed to 'Chez Géza' in Reims, expressing the hope that the postcard arrives before the post offices go on strike.
