Description

Colorized view of the ruins of Ruthven Barracks located in the Scottish Highlands, with a dirt path leading to the remains and a tree in the foreground. The reverse indicates that the buildings were constructed in 1718 to pacify the Highlanders, destroyed by the Jacobites in 1745, and mentions that Prince Charles's army received its last message there. Two blue 1 shilling stamps (postal revenue) are affixed, with partial cancellation. The address is intended for Madame Ragiot in Paris, with handwritten French script.
