Description

Icon depicting Saint John the Baptist, dated to the end of the 16th century, from the collection of the Museum of Art of Yaroslavl. The reverse indicates it was restored by H.I. Breggin and its creation is attributed to the time of Ivan IV, with possible dates of 1563 or 1571. The icon is described as a blend of tenderness and menace, reflecting the atmosphere of the Yaroslavl monastery.
