Description

View of La Porte Guillaume in Chartres, former tower of the Bishop's fortress, with a chapel on the first floor founded in 1250. The text indicates that the chapel still existed in the 17th century and that the gate was burned in 1856, destroyed by the Germans in 1944. Reverse: French postage stamp of 2 francs from 1946, postmark of Chartres dated 20-1-46, address to Mr. and Mrs. Tessier in Trancy, and handwritten text mentioning the end of the holidays.
