Description

Black and white view of Fort Douaumont, with its ruins and devastated terrain, dated around 1937. The reverse details the history of the fort: built in 1885, occupied by surprise on October 24, 1916 by the 321st 'Gauloise' Division commanded by General Passaga, who planted the French flag. Postmark: 'Hélo-Lorraine - Visit to the Douaumont Ossuary - Nancy - 23 SEP 1937'.
