Description

Illustrated postcard depicting the SS Canada, the first steamship of the Royal Mail Steamers, launched in 1854 and making its first Canadian service voyage in 1856. The reverse mentions the publisher 'Hoot-Chickadee Chapter, Chickadee Magazine' and indicates that the Canada 37 stamp is canceled in Toronto on June 1, 1857. The bilingual text (English/French) describes the shipwreck on the Saint-Laurent in June 1857.
